It has been a while since I have posted anything here so i have a few things to note. First of all, all of the plants seem to be doing well thus far. I have not had any plants die and they all have noticeably grown. As for the fish, the only species that did not take to my tank were the Cardinal Tetras. I have heard that they can be difficult to keep...so I am not discouraged. The only problem I have had up to this point, besides the death of the Cardinal Tetras, is the appearance of nuisance hair algae. This algae started to grow very quickly under my powerful lights. I have also learned the the levels of Phosphates in my tap water may be encouraging the growth of this algae. So in order to battle this, I have put a phosphate remover in my filter (RomaPhos) and I plan on using distilled water for my water changes in the near future. Also I have populated the tank with various fish that eat algae...mainly Mollies, Ottocinclus catfish, and Siamese Algae Eaters...yes the real ones. I finally found a place where I can get the SAE's and I can't wait to see what kind of affect they have on the tank. I also noticed that my guppies had babies...so there are alot of thriving baby guppies now....and my snails have been reporducing non-stop...both the needlepoint and the ram's horn snails....so I will keep an eye on this to make sure that these numbers do not get out of control.
